Nike is currently looking for super talented up-and-coming Designers, must be based in LOS ANGELES, for an Apprenticeship Program that we are offering in Portland that will be partnering with our famous athlete, Serena Williams! This year, we are considering all qualified Apparel, Graphics, Footwear, Color, Materials, Accessories, 3D, Brand Design and Brand Copywriters in the Greater Los Angeles area. This is a 6-month apprenticeship program that will start in March 2022. We will invite the top applicants to a Virtual Design Combine in November 2021 where they can put their design chops to the test. From there, we will select the finalists to participate in the 6-month paid Design Apprenticeship in Portland, OR at our Nike World Headquarters where we pay for your relocation & housing as well (Onsite is still TBD depending on Covid, in which case we may have to adjust to make the program virtual, yet you will still reside in Portland). We are reaching out to encourage anyone you know in your network to apply! We will need to see a portfolio (which they will upload as part of the application process), focusing on any or all creative skills (or writing skills) and the process from: apparel design, graphic design, footwear design, color design, materials design, brand design, accessories design, 3D design and/or brand copywriting. The deadline for applications is September 22, 2021 and we are accepting applications now! Everything else should be outlined in the link below, so feel free to check out our page! Thanks so much and looking forward to your potential interest!

Hi everybody.  Welcome again to Fashion Designers of Color.  While we work to post jobs from companies specifically for our group, we want to let you know of a great job board created by Aurora James, founder of the 15PercentPledge.  We saw jobs there that we have not seen advertised on other sites like stylecareers.com.  You should also check out the  Black In Fashion Council Job Board. In February we will start to offer content that I hope you will participate in and enjoy, including a virtual talk with a fashion human resources expert that recruited for companies such as Alexander Wang.   We also plan to offer future talks on how to prepare for a design director role, salary negotiations, and virtual networking events.  Stay tuned!!!

I'm so happy to have you as a part of this unique community of fashion professionals. I hope that this platform will assist you in advancing your career. Even though we are in the building stages, I hope that we can add value to you by having candid discussions around job opportunities, interviewing, salary negotiations, insights into companies that we have worked for, and other enriching topics. If you have any suggestions for this platform, please let us know. I am Wevly Wilson, a Sr Shoe Designer at Coach. I studied at Tennessee State University and began my career in the pharmaceutical sales industry. I moved from being a sales rep into human resources. More specifically, I recruited pharmaceutical and medical device salespeople. Eventually, I moved to NYC to attend Parsons School of Design and began my 2nd career in footwear and accessories design. Because of my background in HR/talent acquisition, I am extremely passionate about helping people advance their careers by opening doors to employment opportunities. Now that we find ourselves in an interesting time in history, due to the recent attention that is now being giving to racism in this country, I feel this is the best time to organize and take advantage of the momentum that was started by the many people of color who have shared their experiences and companies that are now vowing to do better with regard to hiring a workforce that truly reflects their customer base. This is a process, but I am hopeful that this can be a tool that you can rely on to get information that you need to help you in your career. Please be patient as we grow this community and also please share this information with your friends and coworkers who identify as a person of color and is a designer, product development, production, fabric, print, or fit/technical design professional.
